Prince Harry has faced harsh criticism from royal commentators for his public comments and actions against his family, with some labeling his behavior as “deplorable.” Royal expert Jennie Bond, speaking in an interview with The Sun, accused the Duke of Sussex of attacking his own flesh and blood in an unseemly manner, particularly for the revelations in his memoir Spare.
During the interview, Bond didn’t hold back, calling Harry “a very silly boy” for his decisions regarding the royal family. She expressed disappointment in his choice to air personal grievances publicly, stating, “It [attacking the Royal Family] was deplorable and stupid—I think he was a very silly boy to write Spare.”
Her sentiments were echoed by The Sun’s royal photographer, Arthur Edwards, who joined the live discussion and shared his own disapproval of Harry’s actions. Edwards pointed out that Harry had the choice to step away from royal life and start fresh in the United States, but criticized him for subsequently speaking ill of the family he left behind. “He wanted to leave the Royal Family and he wanted to live in America with Meghan—that’s his choice,” Edwards remarked. “But then to go and start being really nasty about the royal family just to make money.”
Edwards went on to draw a comparison between Harry and another royal figure, Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson. According to Edwards, while Edward VIII also left the royal fold and lived abroad, he refrained from publicly criticizing the royal family. “When Edward VIII abdicated and became the Duke of Windsor, he went abroad too. But he never ever said anything about the royal family,” Edwards explained. “He might have met Hitler, but he didn’t say a bit about the royal family,” told Daily Express.
The harsh commentary comes amid ongoing debates about Harry’s candid memoir and his decision to speak openly about his strained relationship with his family, particularly with his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William. The fallout from Spare has continued to be a point of contention, drawing sharp divides between those who support Harry’s right to share his truth and those who believe he’s damaged his relationship with the royal family beyond repair.
As the criticisms mount, Prince Harry remains a controversial figure, with his actions igniting debate both within royal circles and the public at large.
