Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly facing a dilemma as they consider their plans for the upcoming Christmas holiday. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have received an invitation to spend the festive season with Harry’s uncle, Charles Spencer, but they are concerned about the security situation if they decide to make the trip.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, offered her insight into the couple’s hesitation. She explained to Fabulous: “I think the Duchess of Sussex’s views on coming back to the UK are probably pretty negative. I don’t imagine you would want to come back to a country where you are so universally disliked.”
One of the key concerns for the Sussexes is their ongoing security issue. Prince Harry has made it clear in the past that he will not bring Meghan and their children back to the UK unless he is confident that their security is guaranteed. Seward highlighted this, saying, “And also there’s the problem of the security which is still not solved, and Harry says he won’t bring his wife and children back here until he feels that he is in a secure position.”
The couple’s dilemma also revolves around their family life, particularly regarding their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who are growing up far from their royal relatives. “I do think that Harry and Meghan have a dilemma with their family life, because the children are getting older, and the children are probably absolutely intrigued to know what their cousins are like. They wouldn’t remember them,” Seward noted.
Despite the challenges, the invitation from Charles Spencer may hold some appeal for the Sussexes. “I think that maybe an invitation from Charles Spencer might be attractive, and they would meet other cousins,” Seward said, suggesting that the opportunity for the children to interact with their extended family could be a factor in their decision-making.
However, accepting the invitation could lead to more complications, particularly regarding Harry’s strained relationship with the rest of the royal family. Seward posed the question: “But then it’s going to raise a lot of questions. Is Harry going to see his father? Is he going to see any other members of his family?”
At this stage, the couple appears undecided about their holiday plans. “I would think at the moment they’re undecided. They seem to make a lot of fairly last-minute decisions in their lives,” Seward concluded, leaving their Christmas plans in question.
