Authorities in Newport News, Virginia, have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the brutal killing of 28-year-old Imani Parrish, a mother whose body was discovered wrapped in a blood-stained blanket inside her home. David Anderson was taken into custody on Monday and charged with first-degree murder following a weeks-long investigation into Parrish’s death.

The gruesome discovery was made on April 30 after Parrish’s 10-year-old son grew worried when she failed to respond to his messages. Concerned by the silence, Parrish’s mother sent her partner to check on her daughter at her home on Antrim Drive. Upon arrival, he made the horrifying discovery—Parrish’s lifeless body stuffed inside a bedroom closet, wrapped in a blood-soaked comforter, Law & Crime reports.

Court documents obtained by WAVY reveal disturbing details about the crime scene. A trail of blood led from the bathroom to the closet where Parrish was found. The medical examiner determined she died from blunt force trauma to the head, and shards of glass were embedded in her hair and clothing, indicating a violent altercation.

While police have not specified the relationship between Anderson and Parrish, investigators identified him as a suspect during the probe. Parrish’s family had long suspected someone close to her was responsible. Her grieving mother, Nichole Parrish, spoke out in anguish, saying: “She really cared about that person. She really cared, but justice, I hope, will be served. Turn yourself in, please.”

Imani Parrish was remembered as far more than a victim—she was a radiant, artistic soul who touched countless lives. Her obituary paints a picture of a devoted mother, beloved daughter, and loyal friend whose presence brought joy to those around her.

“Imani will be remembered for her natural beauty, infectious smile, kindness, strength, and the love she gave so freely,” the tribute reads. As the legal process unfolds, Anderson remains in custody while Parrish’s family and community seek answers—and justice for a life taken far too soon.
