Philadelphia police have launched a homicide investigation after the body of a 21-year-old woman was found wrapped in a sheet and shower curtain and stuffed into a futon inside an apartment in the city’s Frankford section.
Authorities say the disturbing discovery was made just after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, after officers were called to an apartment on the 4400 block of Frankford Avenue in response to a missing person report.
According to police, the young woman had not been heard from since Wednesday, April 2. When officers entered the residence, they discovered her body concealed within a futon, covered in a sheet and a plastic shower curtain. She had suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso.
The violent nature of the crime has left neighbors shaken. “I’m young and I’m around the same age,” local resident Shirese Robinson told NBC10. “It’s very traumatic to hear about anyone’s death. We don’t know… who it could have been.”
Though police have not yet publicly confirmed the woman’s identity, her family—who live in Venezuela—told Telemundo 62 on Monday that the victim was Yuleisy Torelles, a 21-year-old who had been living in Philadelphia for less than a year and working as a waitress. Her family said they last heard from her on Tuesday, April 1.
Angel Cardona, a local business owner, remembered Torelles as a warm and friendly customer. “She came in about a year ago to purchase furniture for her apartment,” he recalled. “It’s very tragic and mind-blowing. It’s very unfortunate that happened. She’s obviously a young lady, 21-years-old, just starting out in life.
And it’s a shame. It really is. My heart and prayers go out to her family, her friends, everybody that knew her.” No weapon was recovered at the scene, and no arrests have yet been made. Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The gruesome nature of the case and the youth of the victim have sparked alarm in the community, as detectives work to determine who is responsible for this brutal crime.
