Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard struggled during a Fox News appearance after accusing former President Barack Obama and his administration of orchestrating a “treasonous conspiracy” related to Russian election interference.
Gabbard, serving as President Donald Trump’s intelligence chief, has repeatedly claimed that top Obama officials “manufactured intelligence” about Russia’s 2016 election meddling and that she has “irrefutable evidence” to support criminal charges. But when pressed on live television, her explanation fell flat.
“What is that irrefutable evidence for our viewers tonight?” host Laura Ingraham asked.
“Laura, you know, as you were playing those clips of these people like Morning Joe seemingly befuddled saying that by no account is any of this true, I would challenge them to see if they have actually read the documents, every single page of the documents that we’ve released over the last couple of weeks,” Gabbard replied, sidestepping the question.
She then directed viewers to the DNI website, claiming “it’s all right there for anyone to see,” without presenting specific proof on air. Instead, she repeated her allegation that Obama convened a National Security Council meeting directing intelligence leaders, including former CIA Director John Brennan, to produce an assessment of Russian election interference that was “manufactured” to damage Trump.
Gabbard further alleged that officials “knowingly wrote things in this assessment that were false,” though she again offered no concrete examples.
For weeks, Gabbard has posted declassified documents online, including Obama-era emails and a Republican-authored House report on Russian election interference. Those materials confirmed that Russia ran an influence campaign during the 2016 election but did not support her claim that intelligence officials knowingly fabricated evidence or that Obama masterminded any conspiracy.
Even the House GOP report she released concluded that Moscow interfered in the election, though it diverged from bipartisan findings by downplaying that the interference aimed to help Trump.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has embraced Gabbard’s claims, confirming that a grand jury may eventually hear evidence. On Fox News, Gabbard acknowledged the Justice Department had requested more documents, undercutting her insistence that “irrefutable evidence” has already been delivered.
Obama’s office responded to the accusations early in the controversy, calling them “bizarre” and a political distraction.
Despite her strong rhetoric, Gabbard has yet to present the clear evidence she promised, leaving her “treasonous conspiracy” claims largely unsupported.
