Blake Lively is embracing the joyful chaos of motherhood, opening up about her close bond with her four children and how they’ve helped her through a particularly tough year.
In a candid conversation on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the Gossip Girl star shared heartwarming details about life at home with her husband Ryan Reynolds and their kids—James, 10, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and youngest son Olin, 2.
The 37-year-old actress said her toddler son stands out in the family dynamic, calling him both a “dream” and a major reason her household is in “chaos at all times.”
“My little boy is so romantic. When I walk in, he goes, ‘Mama, my love!’” Lively told host Seth Meyers with a smile. “It’s different. He just, like, announces that I’m the love of his life at all times, which is just the best feeling in the world.”
Lively reflected on the experience of raising a son after having three daughters, joking that she’s now putting more effort into her appearance thanks to her little admirer. “I get dressed every day like I’m a girl in middle school. Like, ‘Oh, my gosh … I hope he, like, says something.’”
While her son offers daily affection, her daughters bring a dose of humor—and blunt fashion critiques. “They criticize my outfits,” she said, laughing. She described one of her daughters as a “blend” of Napoleon Bonaparte and Jennifer Lawrence, noting her sharp wit and commanding personality, told Page Six.
“She’s the funniest person in the world, but she will definitely rule the world with authoritarian leadership,” Lively said, likely referring to Betty.
Beyond the laughs, Lively also took a moment to reflect on how much her children have meant to her during a personally challenging time. While she didn’t go into detail, she acknowledged her ongoing legal battle with actor-director Justin Baldoni and said having her kids with her through it all has meant everything.
“This past year has had some of the lowest lows,” she shared, “but it’s been the best having my kids by my side through it.” For Lively, motherhood has been a grounding force and a source of daily joy—even if it comes with a little chaos.
