Universal announced on August 1, 2024, that it had won the highly competitive auction to depict Spears’ life in a feature film. The studio, known for successful musical biopics like 2015’s “Straight Outta Compton,” which grossed over $200 million globally, is currently working on Snoop Dogg’s biopic and a film inspired by Prince’s music.
Spears’ memoir, released in October 2023, provided an intimate look into her life under the spotlight, her meteoric rise to fame, the struggles she faced, her conservatorship, and her personal relationships, including her high-profile romance and breakup with Justin Timberlake. The memoir sold 1.1 million copies in the U.S. within its first week and has sold over 2.5 million copies to date, according to Forbes.
