Despite swirling rumors of a breakup, the question remains: after seven years together and an engagement, is it really over between Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson? Reports have suggested that the Coldplay frontman, 47, and the actress, 34, have faced challenges in their relationship, with insiders claiming that Chris’s commitment might not meet Dakota’s expectations.
An unnamed source recently told Woman’s Day Australia, “Dakota’s ring has been on and off more times than you can count. Dakota wants to start a family more than anything, but she wants to do it with a partner, as a team, not with someone whose foot is halfway out the door.”
However, these rumors were seemingly dispelled when Dakota was spotted in Malibu last week, proudly displaying her engagement ring. Her representative also denied the breakup speculations, stating that the couple is “happily together.”
Yet, the rumors haven’t stopped. Social media gossip account Deux Moi recently published allegations that Chris was seen kissing an Italian model, while Dakota was reportedly spending time with actors Jeremy Allen White and Pedro Pascal. Despite this, those close to the couple believe their bond remains strong.
According to an undisclosed informant, Dakota and Chris have a history of overcoming challenges together. “She’s crazy about Chris and it doesn’t take much for him to lure her back. He truly does love her, he just can’t let go of his rock star world,” the insider shared with the entertainment news outlet.
One person who seems particularly invested in the couple’s relationship is Chris’s ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow. Sources suggest that Gwyneth is more excited than anyone about the prospect of Chris and Dakota getting married. Some even claim that she’s been pushing for them to tie the knot soon.
In a recent interview with Heat World UK, sources close to Paltrow revealed, “Things have been up and down between Chris and Dakota. They’re trying to work things out on their own, but Gwyneth is determined for them to get married ASAP. On one hand, it’s sweet, but it comes across as very controlling because it’s like she wants to have a say in who Chris is seeing. The last thing he and Dakota need is to have Gwyneth sticking her nose in.”
The insider added, “Gwyneth loves Dakota and knows she’s the right partner for Chris. But a lot of people wonder if there is also an element of her not relishing the idea of Chris being single again, and bringing God knows who around their children.”
Given Gwyneth’s close relationship with both Chris and Dakota, her involvement is not entirely surprising. However, whether Chris and Dakota will follow Gwyneth’s lead and walk down the aisle, or continue their relationship in a more unconventional manner like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, remains to be seen.
