MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski expressed horror after watching clips of Donald Trump’s rambling speech in Las Vegas, describing his incoherence as further proof that he is “completely unfit” to serve again as president. The presumptive Republican nominee’s campaign had hired extra medics and allegedly some attendees to attend the rally on Sunday, as temperatures soared above 100 degrees.
The “Morning Joe” co-host was particularly disturbed by Trump’s inability to stay focused and deliver meaningful remarks after his teleprompters apparently failed to work. “Some would call that completely unfit to deal with the challenges as the leader of the free world, just completely unfit,” Brzezinski said, after watching video clips of Trump ranting about sharks and boats. “Not trying to be flip, not trying to be funny, that was just disturbing and kind of crazy talk of a guy who did not know what to say when his prompter failed”, reported Fox8live.
Producers had juxtaposed video highlights of President Joe Biden’s speeches over the weekend in Normandy, commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day, with Trump’s rally. Historian Jon Meacham, who has helped write some of Biden’s speeches, noted the stark contrast between the two.
“It’s very clear, I mean, there’s not a lot of mystery here,” said Meacham. “We have a president who is trying to maintain and strengthen a post-World War II order that, for all of its imperfections, has prevailed in a largely peaceable way since those men took the beaches at Normandy and went to Berlin, prevailed in the Pacific. President [Harry S.] Truman, in a surprising turn, most people didn’t know who he was when he became president in April of 1945, grows in the job in a remarkable way, established NATO, established the Marshall Plan.”
During the rally, Trump told his supporters, “I don’t care about you, I just want your vote.” Brzezinski was also troubled by Trump’s exploitation of a recent shark attack in which a woman lost her arm, using it as a cheap shot against electric boat engines in his campaign speech. “There is so much material to work with over the weekend between these two choices,” Brzezinski said.
“One on the right who promises to be a dictator, who promises to exact retribution on anybody who made him angry or held him accountable, and one on the left who, again, you may not agree with his policies and his legislation, even though he has accomplished more than most modern, if not all modern American presidents, he endorses democracy, agrees with democracy. He wants to preserve our democracy. There is a choice. We’ve heard it a million times, yet, and I have to say it because a lot of people are influenced by what they watch on Fox News.”
Brzezinski continued, “I watch the Sunday shows, there’s all this material. There’s this craven speech in Nevada in the sweltering heat, where he flippantly talks about a woman who lost her leg in a shark attack. He makes it fodder for his speech. Let’s not even begin with the J6 ‘hostages.’ He calls them hostages at a time when there are hostages being held in one of the two major wars that President Biden is dealing with, Israeli hostages, some of them Americans.
They’re being tortured and truly held captive, but he wants to say the people who defecated on the Capitol, broke in, broke windows, ran through the halls, talked about killing Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence, those people who are being held accountable for their crimes by courts through the law, he wants to call them hostages. It’s sick, it’s depraved.” Brzezinski’s comments highlight the ongoing and profound divide in perceptions of Trump’s fitness for office, as well as the contrasting leadership styles of Trump and Biden.
