Singer Dawn Richard delivered powerful testimony in federal court as she recalled a terrifying moment involving Sean “Diddy” Combs and singer Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura during the early days of their time with the music group Dirty Money.
Taking the stand at Diddy’s ongoing federal trial, Richard recounted a violent incident from 2009, describing how the music mogul turned threatening after a disturbing altercation.
“He said you could go missing, that we could die,” Richard told jurors. “I was shocked but also scared, I couldn’t believe this would be the beginning of a journey for us (with the group Dirty Money).”
According to Richard, the events unfolded at Combs’ Los Angeles home, where she witnessed him push Cassie to the ground and then drag her upstairs. She said the experience left her deeply shaken.
“I was scared for her, I was scared to do anything,” Richard said, according to NBC News.
The testimony adds to a growing list of allegations against Diddy, who is facing federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. The charges stem from a broader investigation that began last year and culminated in his federal trial, which began Monday, May 19.
The 2024 indictment marked a serious turn in the legal troubles for the Bad Boy Records founder, whose decades-long career in music and entertainment has been marred in recent months by disturbing accusations from multiple parties.
Despite the explosive testimony and mounting evidence, Combs has pleaded not guilty to the sex trafficking charges and has continued to maintain his innocence in court.
Dawn Richard, known for her work with Danity Kane and Dirty Money, is one of the highest-profile names to testify in the trial so far. Her statements are expected to play a significant role in the prosecution’s case, particularly in establishing a pattern of alleged abuse and control by Combs over those in his inner circle.
As the trial unfolds, Richard’s chilling account of fear, silence, and intimidation is shedding new light on the environment surrounding one of the music industry’s most powerful and now most controversial figures.
