Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of defense, faced immediate protests as he delivered his opening remarks at his confirmation hearing.
The protests began just moments after Hegseth started speaking to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday.
“All glory belongs to our lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” the nominee stated. “May his will be done.”
Seconds later, a bearded man interrupted, shouting, “You are a misogynist!” The protester then accused Hegseth of being a “Christian Zionist.”
The man was swiftly escorted from the room by security personnel.
“I want to thank the authorities for their swift reaction to that outburst and state that similar interruptions will be treated in like manner,” said Chairman Roger Wicker (R-MS).
As the hearing continued, moments later, another protest broke out, quickly shut down, followed by a third that resulted in physical removal from the room.
