The New York Police Department (NYPD) is on the hunt for a man who shoved an 80-year-old man onto a subway platform in Manhattan. On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the elderly man was boarding a train at the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station from Lexington Avenue around 4:30 p.m. local time when an unidentified younger man began to argue with him, NYPD officials confirmed to PEOPLE on Sunday, Nov. 24.

In a video shared by the NYPD, the younger man can be seen yelling and quickly shoving the 80-year-old out of the subway car. After the automatic doors shut, the younger man stands on the train as it leaves the platform.

“The unidentified individual pushed the male victim off the train, causing him to fall onto the northbound platform,” police said in a press release, detailing that the elderly man injured his hip in the incident.

Emergency medical personnel took the injured man to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, and he is now in stable condition, police said. The alleged assailant, meanwhile, stayed on the train and “fled to parts unknown,” they added.

Detectives shared an image of the younger man, along with a description, as they asked for the public’s help in locating the attacker. “The sought individual is described as a male with light complexion, approximately 6′ 3″ and 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, brown hat and black headphones,” the press release states.

This incident is the latest of several injuries and deaths that have happened in N.Y.C.’s subway system in recent years. Back in March, a representative for the NYPD confirmed to PEOPLE that a man died after being pushed onto the train tracks at East Harlem’s 125th St. station.

The NYPD said the act was “unprovoked,” adding that the train could not stop in time and struck the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, a 24-year-old male, was later taken into custody.

That same month, a man accused of pushing his girlfriend onto a subway track after a “domestic dispute” was charged with attempted murder and felony assault. The 29-year-old woman was struck by a train at the Fulton Street station in downtown Manhattan, police told PEOPLE at the time.

Additionally, last month, local outlets including ABC 7 New York reported that an 82-year-old woman was pushed onto subway tracks at a station in Flushing, Queens, but no suspect was caught in that case.
