Elon Musk has once again found himself at the center of controversy, this time due to a sarcastic comment directed at pop superstar Taylor Swift. The remark, which quickly stirred a backlash among Swift’s passionate fanbase, came in response to Swift’s recent political endorsement.
On Wednesday, Taylor Swift voiced her support for Vice President Kamala Harris on Instagram, making a pointed reference to the term “Childless Cat Lady,” which was originally used by Senator J.D. Vance in a derogatory way to criticize people without children. Swift, known for her advocacy and outspokenness, cleverly reclaimed the term, using it to highlight Harris’ accomplishments.
However, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X (formerly Twitter), couldn’t resist responding to Swift’s post. Taking to his own platform, Musk shared a sarcastic comment, writing, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
The remark, seemingly made in jest, did not sit well with Swift’s devoted fans, known as “Swifties.” Many took offense to Musk’s comment, viewing it as disrespectful and dismissive of the singer’s message. Swifties were quick to voice their frustration across social media platforms, criticizing Musk for what they saw as an inappropriate and unnecessary response.
According to Billboard, the post even gained attention on Weibo, China’s popular social media site, where users expressed their disapproval of Musk’s remark. One user, quoted by the outlet, said, “What a ridiculous joke. ‘I will give you a child?’ Who wants children from you?” Another user added, “This is a gorgeous woman. You don’t have any respect for her.”
Despite the mounting criticism, Musk has not yet responded to the backlash from Swift’s fanbase. As the controversy continues to brew, many are waiting to see if the tech mogul will address the situation or if he will remain silent amid the outrage.
