“It Really Looks Bad”: George Clooney Says Amal ‘Will Be Glad When It’s Gone’ as He Ditches Broadway Hair Look

George Clooney is known for his signature silver fox style, but his recent transformation for Broadway has raised more than a few eyebrows including his wife Amal Clooney’s.

The Oscar-winning actor, currently starring in the Tony-nominated play Good Night, and Good Luck, opened up about the less-than-glamorous hair change he made for the role, and how it’s gone over at home.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Clooney joked about covering up his altered hairstyle, saying, “It’s bad. It’s still dark on top, but it’s gray at the bottom.” He added that he hasn’t dyed his hair in two months, leading to “that really nice-looking grow-out of gray.”

When Meyers tried to reassure him that the hair looked “great on stage,” Clooney wasn’t buying it. “Sure,” he replied dryly, before adding with a laugh, “It really looks bad. It looks like [I’m] going through some horrible midlife crisis. I’m 64 midlife is a little stretch.”

Fans have taken notice of the darker, slicked-back hairdo, which is a sharp departure from Clooney’s usual salt-and-pepper charm and not in a good way. The reaction from his inner circle hasn’t been much warmer.

Clooney revealed that Amal Clooney had a humorous response to his new look. “She found it funny,” he said, before admitting, “She’ll be glad when it’s gone.”

The actor’s run in Good Night, and Good Luck at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City wraps up on Sunday, June 8, and Clooney confirmed the change won’t stick around any longer than it has to. “The last show is Sunday. We do a matinee, and then by the time we go to the Tonys that night, it’ll be gone,” he promised.

Clooney, who earned a Best Actor in a Play nomination for his role, seems eager to leave the hair behind and return to the familiar look that helped define his movie star persona. Until then, it’s safe to say he’s counting down the days and Amal likely is too.
