Scarlett Johansson returned to Saturday Night Live to host the highly anticipated Season 50 finale on May 17, 2025. While the Hollywood star has previously appeared in a range of memorable sketches—including portrayals of public figures like Ivanka Trump—her latest appearance has stirred controversy online, though without factual basis.
Following the episode, a YouTube video and numerous social media posts began circulating, claiming that Johansson had made “humiliating” remarks about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during her opening monologue. These reports quickly gained traction, leading many to believe the actress had taken a public jab at the California-based royal couple.
However, those claims are entirely speculative and lack any credible evidence. There is no substantiated footage or transcript confirming that Johansson mentioned the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at any point during the SNL broadcast. In fact, a review of her appearance shows that she did not reference Prince Harry or Meghan Markle in her monologue—or in any sketch throughout the episode.
Despite the online rumors, there is no documentation from NBC, SNL, or Johansson herself that supports the claims. As such, suggestions that she targeted the couple appear to be unfounded and driven more by internet speculation than actual content from the show.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who reside in Los Angeles with their children, Archie and Lilibet, have remained a frequent topic of public conversation since stepping down from their royal duties in 2020. Harry married former Suits actress Meghan Markle in 2018, and their decision to leave the royal family followed reported tensions with King Charles, Prince William, and other senior royals.
While Johansson’s return to SNL was a headline-worthy event in its own right, the attempts to link her performance to commentary on Harry and Meghan appear to be completely baseless.
As of now, Scarlett Johansson has made no public statements regarding the couple and did not reference them during her May 17 hosting duties. In short: the rumors are not rooted in reality.
