Ivanka Trump offered her first public remarks about her father’s recent felony conviction. The former president’s elder daughter appeared Tuesday on The Lex Friedman Podcast, where she explained why she had not remained involved in politics like her brothers after serving as a White House adviser, reported The Daily Beast.
“It’s a pretty dark world. There’s a lot of darkness, a lot of negativity, and it’s just really at odds with what feels good for me as a human being,” she said. “And, you know, it’s a really rough business. So for me and my family, it feels right to not participate.”
Friedman asked whether that darkness was related to “all the legal turmoil that’s going on” and prompted her to comment on her father “going through that.” “On a human level, it’s my father and I love him very much, so it’s painful to experience,” she said. “But ultimately, I wish it didn’t have to be this way.”
Her comments came on the same day Donald Trump’s sentencing was pushed back until Sept. 18 following the U.S. Supreme Court decision granting him partial presidential immunity from prosecution. He had previously been set for sentencing on July 11, but the court delayed that to consider how the ruling impacted his conviction.
Ivanka’s decision to distance herself from the political scene contrasts sharply with her brothers, Donald Jr. and Eric, who remain active in political and public advocacy. Her remarks underscore the personal toll the legal challenges and political conflicts have taken on her and her family.
While Ivanka did not delve deeply into the specifics of her father’s legal battles, her comments reflect a desire to prioritize her well-being and family life over the tumultuous political landscape. This choice highlights the broader implications of living under the intense scrutiny that comes with being a member of a politically prominent family.
As the legal proceedings continue, the Trump family remains in the public eye, with each member navigating their path amid ongoing challenges. Ivanka’s statements provide a glimpse into the personal struggles behind the headlines, offering a rare moment of vulnerability from someone often seen as a composed public figure.
