Katy Perry has scored a major victory in her long-running legal battle with entrepreneur Carl Westcott and is now pursuing more than $5 million in damages tied to her $15 million Montecito mansion.
According to PEOPLE, the pop star appeared in court via Zoom on August 26 to provide testimony in the case, which centers on her 2020 purchase of the historic 1930s estate. Perry, who bought the home alongside then-partner Orlando Bloom, faced legal challenges shortly after the transaction from Westcott, the founder of 1-800-Flowers.
Westcott, who was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in 2015, argued that he lacked the capacity to enter into the sales agreement and later filed a lawsuit against Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi, in August 2020. His claim sought to void the deal, alleging he was not in a sound state of mind at the time of signing.
After years of back-and-forth litigation, Perry prevailed on the issue of liability. In May 2024, she officially secured ownership of the Santa Barbara County property through her LLC, DDoveB, according to The Wall Street Journal. The ruling came after the court found Westcott’s arguments unconvincing.

The presiding judge determined that Westcott had provided “no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract,” further emphasizing that he appeared “coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational” when finalizing the sale.
With the ownership dispute resolved, the case has now shifted to damages. Perry is seeking over $5 million, which includes approximately $3 million to compensate for lost rental income she claims was prevented by the ongoing litigation.
The court’s latest phase will focus on determining whether Perry is entitled to the damages she is seeking and how the prolonged legal battle has financially impacted her.
The Montecito estate, a coveted property in a star-studded enclave, remains at the center of the high-profile dispute that has stretched on for nearly four years. For Perry, the case not only secures her legal right to the mansion but also highlights the financial toll of what has become one of the most publicized celebrity real estate battles in recent years.
