“She Really Worked Hard to Earn My Trust”: Khloé Kardashian finally lets her guard down with mental health therapist

Khloé Kardashian is opening up about the emotional journey that led her to finally feel comfortable in therapy — a process that took over a decade to begin.

During her appearance on the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty, released May 5, the Kardashians star spoke candidly about her past reluctance to open up to a mental health professional and how one therapist, in particular, helped her break through long-held walls.

“It took me over 10 years to see a therapist again, and so many people would be like, ‘I think you need therapy.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’m sure I do, but I don’t feel comfortable talking to anybody,’” admitted the 40-year-old reality star and entrepreneur.

Khloé credited her sister Kim Kardashian for helping her make the first step. She explained that Kim introduced her to a therapist who came with a “seal of approval” that helped put her at ease.

“I will say, because I trust all of my siblings with everything in me, that normally, if it is an introduction through them, of course, my guards do go down,” Khloé shared. “Kim has had her own crazy things that she’s not very trusting with either. So, for her to trust [them], I was like, ‘OK. I think I’m a little safe here.’”

Once she began working with the therapist, Khloé said the woman went above and beyond to create a safe space for her to heal and share. “She really worked hard to earn my trust. That made me feel safer with her. But the trust took a long time,” she admitted.

The Good American co-founder also described how the therapist’s casual demeanor and connection to their neighborhood helped her feel more at ease.

“I love how chill she is,” said Khloé. “She’s more like a friend and I feel like I could trust her. And that’s very rare for me.” She added, “I also think because of her relationship with Kim, she felt like more of a friend as opposed to this traditional therapist.”

The interview offered a rare glimpse into Khloé’s personal growth and the importance of trust and connection in her healing process.
