Mary Trump, niece of former President Donald Trump and an outspoken critic of her uncle, recently took aim at the Republican National Committee (RNC) in her podcast, The Mary Trump Show. In the episode, she, along with co-hosts Danielle Moody Mills and Jen Taub, discussed the stark contrast between the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and the RNC.
The conversation was so amusing that it caused Taub to nearly choke on her coffee while laughing. The discussion, which was also captured in a video format available on Rumble, centered on the overwhelmingly positive reception of Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech at the DNC in August 2024. Mary Trump, a psychologist and author, compared the success of the DNC’s convention to the lackluster efforts of the RNC.
As reported by the International Business Times, Mary praised the DNC for their “flawless” convention, expressing her admiration for how it was conducted. In contrast, her criticism of the RNC was sharp and unreserved. Mills contributed to the conversation by sharing a particularly humorous moment from the DNC: “And let’s just say the highlight was Georgia being called by Lil Jon, and then him coming down and singing his top hits and then ending with ‘from the window to the walls,’ which is what people on social media said.”
Mills further highlighted the excitement surrounding the DNC, stating, “The roll call can never be done the same way ever again. It was fire!” Amid the lighthearted banter, Mary remarked, “Yeah. And I just realized we can’t show the clip because of the music.” Mills then encouraged listeners to check the clip on social media, particularly on her X account.
The comparison between the two conventions reached its peak when Mary quipped, “But they compare and contrast between how the DNC did it last night and how the Republicans did it. It’s, I mean, it is like, a funeral,” prompting Mills to agree by saying that the RNC convention looked like a “wake.”
According to The Guardian, Mary didn’t hold back as she further described the RNC: “But like a white people, waspy funeral. You know, in the rain with black umbrellas. That’s what the RNC was like. So, you know, they just cannot, the Republicans did nothing, right?” This comment led to a burst of laughter from Taub, who admitted she “just choked on her coffee like they do in those memes.”
Reflecting on the Republican Party’s shortcomings, Mary concluded, “Okay. The Republicans did nothing right—unless you think it’s a right thing to have a bunch of racist women abusers, you know, introducing your candidate. And the DNC has not put a foot wrong at all.”
Mary Trump has been vocal in her criticism of Donald Trump since 2020 when she became the first member of the Trump family to publicly question his suitability for the presidency. She has accused him of racism and incompetence, stating, “I would say he behaves like a white supremacist. He’s acting on his own racism. He’s doing racist things that are endangering people of color in this country.” Mary’s commentary continues to resonate as she remains a fierce critic of her uncle’s political legacy.
