Mary Trump, the niece of former President Donald Trump, issued a stark warning about the potential dangers of her uncle’s return to power. In a post on her Substack blog, the trained psychologist cautioned that Donald Trump would pose an even greater threat in a second term, emphasizing the far-reaching consequences of his actions.
Mary Trump began by criticizing the mainstream media for normalizing her uncle’s behavior, stating that they have downplayed some of his most concerning traits. She wrote, “As mightily as corporate media have tried to normalize—and to a troubling degree have succeeded in normalizing—Donald’s worst behavior, this is light years away from normal.” Her comments reflect frustration with the way media coverage has treated Trump’s rhetoric and actions as part of the political norm, according to The Guardian.
Referring to Donald Trump’s intentions to “punish his enemies,” Mary Trump expressed alarm at how dangerous his plans could be. “I think it’s worth pausing for a minute to acknowledge how extraordinary, how outside the realm of politics-as-usual and the morally acceptable that is; how unconscionable it is that we have descended so far that we even have to have this conversation,” she explained.
Mary Trump further detailed how she believes this would unfold in a second Trump term. “It will start with Donald and his inner circle firing non-partisan civil servants and hiring in their stead people who will pledge their loyalty to him, not the Constitution or the United States.” She predicted that Trump would install loyalists and sycophants in key government roles, from FBI Director to U.S. attorneys, effectively dismantling the checks and balances that preserve democratic institutions.
One of Mary Trump’s most alarming claims was that a second Trump term would be even more dangerous because “there will be no guardrails.” Reflecting on his first term, she warned that “we saw how bad things got during the Trump administration when there were guardrails in place—this time, there will be no guardrails at all.” She also pointed out that the Supreme Court’s ruling that a president cannot be prosecuted for anything deemed an official duty could give Trump unprecedented power. “There would literally be nothing to constrain him,” she noted, emphasizing how unchecked executive power could lead to abuses. told by Hindustan Times.
