A royal insider has clarified who would face the most significant losses if the Sussexes were to divorce. Former royal butler Paul Burrell, in an interview with Prime Casino, shared his candid perspective on the matter. According to Burrell, despite the pressures on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage and lifestyle, there are no immediate signs of a split. The reason? Harry would stand to lose the most.
“Despite pressures on their marriage and lifestyle, I personally think there are no signs of divorce because Harry would lose too much,” Burrell stated. He elaborated that the couple shares a common goal of building their wealth and brand as quickly as possible. “I think Meghan and Harry have a common goal to make themselves as rich as possible in as short a time as possible,” he said. “That balance works together for the sake of their brand, their marriage. It is all the same thing.”
Burrell also highlighted Meghan’s enduring appeal, noting, “I think Meghan actually retains a fascination for lots of people.” His comments come in response to earlier claims that Meghan would be the one to suffer the most in the event of a divorce. Biographer Victor Hugo, for instance, told The Sun that Meghan’s global recognition is largely tied to her marriage to Prince Harry. “The reason that we know [Meghan], of course, is not because of her career as an actress in Suits and other things—it’s because she married Prince Harry,” Hugo said.
This raises an “interesting question,” Hugo added: “Is she, as Meghan, able to go her own path? Does she still need the Prince Harry connection? And I suspect the answer is that she does.” While opinions differ on who would be more impacted by a potential split, Burrell’s remarks suggest that the couple’s shared ambitions and public image may keep them united—for now.
