Meghan Markle is facing renewed criticism after one of her former friends claimed the Duchess of Sussex is “fuming” over the public’s affection for Kate Middleton.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, media personality Lizzie Cundy alleged that Meghan is frustrated by the stark difference in public opinion between herself and the Princess of Wales. Cundy argued that Meghan has been working hard to reshape her image but has struggled to gain the same admiration that Kate enjoys in the UK.
“She’s fuming how the public love Kate. She needs to stop being bitter, stop being angry and stop being ‘poor me,’” Cundy said.

The criticism comes as Meghan launches her new lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, a project that includes sharing homemade products like jam in an apparent bid to connect with the public. Cundy, however, dismissed the effort as ineffective. “It doesn’t matter how many pots of jam she makes, she has to stop pretending. She’s not [lifestyle guru] Martha Stewart,” she told the outlet.
According to GB News, the contrast between the two royal women has been clear for years. Polling data from YouGov consistently shows Kate Middleton ranking as one of the most popular members of the Royal Family, while Meghan’s approval ratings in the UK have remained notably low.
Observers point to Meghan’s strained relationship with the British press and her and Prince Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties in 2020 as key factors contributing to her drop in popularity. Meanwhile, Kate has been praised for her resilience and dedication, particularly as she carefully returns to public duties following her cancer treatment.

Cundy’s remarks highlight the ongoing tension in the way both women are perceived by the public and the media. While Kate continues to receive widespread admiration, Meghan has faced a barrage of scrutiny over her personal and professional choices since relocating to the United States.
Despite criticism, Meghan and Prince Harry have continued to pursue media and philanthropic ventures through their Archewell Foundation. However, detractors like Cundy argue that attempts to reposition Meghan as a lifestyle figure will do little to change entrenched public opinion in the UK.
As Cundy summed up: “She needs to stop being bitter” and accept that public sentiment toward Kate is unlikely to shift.
