Meghan Markle was reportedly “inconsolable with tears” following stinging criticism from a person she had long admired. Royal expert Neil Sean revealed that Tina Brown, former Vanity Fair editor and author of The Palace Papers, made harsh remarks about Markle’s PR strategies, calling her decision-making “the worst in the entire world.” Sean explained, “According to a source, Meghan was bereft because she’d admired Tina Brown…particularly because of her connection to Princess Diana and as a way to better understand her husband, Prince Harry, and his feelings about his mother.”
During a podcast appearance on The Ankler, Brown pulled no punches, labeling Markle’s media strategy as “total crap” and accusing her of having a disregard for outside advice. According to The Scottish Express, Brown said, “She’s flawless about getting it all wrong…She has all these people, asks them their opinion, and then doesn’t follow it. She does what she wants to do. And all of her ideas are total crap, unfortunately.” Brown added that Prince Harry seems to follow Markle “blindly…like a child,” further suggesting he is “a lamb to the slaughter in this situation.”
Brown, who had close ties with the late Princess Diana, has been openly critical of the Sussexes’ exit from royal duties. In her book, The Palace Papers: Inside The House Of Windsor – The Truth And The Turmoil, she described their departure as a “disaster,” highlighting the challenges Markle faced in integrating into the royal family and the missteps along the way.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams echoed Brown’s sentiments, pointing to past examples of questionable judgment by Markle. Fitzwilliams noted a particularly controversial moment at The Lion King premiere in 2019, where Markle claimed that an unnamed individual compared the public’s reaction to her wedding to that of Nelson Mandela’s release from prison. Fitzwilliams remarked that this comparison hinted at an “inflated pride” that might contribute to her impulsive decisions.
The criticism comes amid ongoing turmoil for the Sussexes. Prince Harry’s recent memoir, Spare, painted a troubled picture of his relationship with his family, including recounting a heated altercation with his brother, Prince William. Harry alleged that William pulled him by the collar, pushed him to the floor, and upended a dog bowl on his back during one of their arguments. These details suggest that despite the physical and emotional distance, tensions between the brothers remain high.
With Brown’s and other experts’ critiques piling up, Meghan Markle faces an uphill battle in reshaping public perception and finding success beyond the palace gates.
