Meghan Markle’s tendency to lose friends and allies has been highlighted by royal expert Hugo Vickers, who agreed with former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown’s remarks about the Duchess of Sussex’s judgment.
Vickers, a royal biographer, weighed in on Brown’s assessment, which pointed out Meghan’s apparent difficulty in maintaining relationships. Speaking to The Sun Online, Vickers remarked, “Meghan does seem to have a capacity for losing friends and allies all around the place, and Tina Brown, of course, is a very intelligent observer of the scene, and she’s been doing it for a very long time.”
Tina Brown’s opinion of Meghan’s “poor judgment” has resonated with Vickers, who also revealed that he once viewed Meghan as a positive addition to the Royal Family. Initially, he believed she had the potential to make a meaningful impact, citing her impressive background. “For what it’s worth, Meghan lost me as an ally, too, because when she first joined the Royal Family, the line I was taking was she’s the first member to have addressed the United Nations,” he explained.
Vickers had been hopeful about Meghan’s potential role in the monarchy. He believed she could bring new energy to the Royal Family and leverage her platform for good causes. “There was so much that she could do,” Vickers said. However, he added, “But she gradually managed to upset everybody, including Tina Brown, and that can’t be a coincidence.”
The royal commentator also touched on a particular event that caused him to lose confidence in the Duchess: the confusion surrounding the birth of her son, Archie, in 2019. According to Vickers, Meghan’s handling of the situation raised questions and led to widespread speculation. “The way I lost confidence was when there was all that ridiculous nonsense about when Archie was born, and she wouldn’t tell us,” he noted, referencing the secrecy surrounding the birth announcement.
Vickers expressed his bewilderment at the situation, saying, “She was the first woman I’ve ever heard of who’s given birth and subsequently gone into labor later on.” This remark referred to the timeline confusion that surrounded Meghan’s announcement of Archie’s birth, which left the public and media puzzled.
Vickers’ comments add to the growing criticism Meghan Markle has faced in recent years, particularly in how she has handled her relationships and her position within the royal family. Critics like Brown and Vickers suggest that her decisions, including her and Prince Harry’s departure from royal duties, have alienated not just the public but key figures in their circles.
Despite the controversies and ongoing criticism, Meghan continues to maintain her own platform and pursue projects, but as these royal insiders suggest, the friction between her and her former allies appears to have taken a toll.
