Meghan Markle is opening up about the complexities of defining her professional identity, admitting in a recent interview that she’s not quite sure how to describe herself anymore.
In a candid conversation with Fast Company, the Duchess of Sussex shared her thoughts on her evolving career since stepping down from her role as a senior working member of the Royal Family in 2020. Since then, Meghan has pursued a variety of creative and business ventures, ranging from media to lifestyle branding.
“If I had to write a résumé, I don’t know what I would call myself,” she said. “I think it speaks to this chapter many of us find ourselves in, where none of us are one note. But I believe all the notes I am playing are part of the same song.”
The interview comes just weeks after Meghan rejected the “influencer” label during a profile in People magazine. “I see myself as an entrepreneur and a female founder and if the brand ends up influential, then that’s great,” she said at the time.
Indeed, Meghan’s post-royal career has been marked by diverse ventures. Most recently, she announced a new Netflix lifestyle series titled With Love, Meghan, alongside the launch of her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, and her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder. Each project seems to underscore her desire to create content with purpose, especially through the lens of female entrepreneurship and empowerment.
Her comments about not fitting neatly into a single job title reflect a broader cultural shift, especially among women leaders and creatives who are increasingly rejecting traditional career boxes. Meghan’s remarks resonate with many professionals navigating modern careers that span multiple industries and identities.
While critics continue to debate her public image, Meghan’s reflections suggest that she is embracing the freedom that comes with charting her own path.
As she said in her interview, “none of us are one note,” and in Meghan’s case, that tune is still unfolding multifaceted, ambitious, and entirely her own.
