Meghan Markle, who relocated to the U.S. with her husband Prince Harry in 2020, allegedly aspired to be queen, according to royal author Tom Bower. The royal commentator shared his perspective on Meghan’s longing to return to the royal fold years after the couple stepped down as senior working royals.
“Kate is glowing, Kate is successful, Kate is popular. She has everything that Meghan wanted,” Bower previously told Closer Magazine. This statement underscores Meghan’s perceived envy of the Duchess of Cambridge’s position and influence within the royal family.
When the former Suits star married into the royal family in 2018, she envisioned doing things “her way,” but Bower emphasized that there is only one accepted path. “There’s only one way and that’s the royal way,” he declared, highlighting the rigid protocols and traditions that govern royal life.
The Duke of Sussex, currently fifth in line for the British throne, holds a position that Meghan allegedly resents, indicating a departure from her initial aspirations. Bower’s insights suggest that Meghan’s ambitions were at odds with the reality of her royal duties and the established order within the monarchy.
On the other hand, royal expert Ingrid Seward offered a different perspective on Meghan’s relationship with the royal family. Speaking to Newsweek, Seward remarked, “I was so surprised when I heard the queen liked Meghan but she did. Meghan’s a smart lady whatever people think of her.” This statement suggests that Meghan had a more positive rapport with the late Queen Elizabeth II than is often portrayed.
Seward elaborated, noting Meghan’s adeptness at winning favor with the queen. “She knew exactly how to butter up the queen. Even Harry gave us a little glimpse of it by the dogs.” Harry had mentioned during their engagement interview in November 2017 that “the corgis took to you straight away,” with Meghan adding that they were “just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet.”
“Maybe she had a few treats in her handbag for them,” Seward speculated. “Harry actually said Meghan was a great hit with the dogs. They always yap at him but they were all over Meghan. I don’t think that the queen actually saw very much of them. Meghan being American used to ring her up, which a lot of her children don’t do.”
Seward also noted that Meghan made an effort to maintain communication with the queen, understanding its importance. “I think she kept in touch with her because she knew it was important and then she met Meghan’s [mother].”
As these differing viewpoints illustrate, Meghan Markle’s relationship with the royal family and her aspirations within it remain subjects of considerable intrigue and debate.
