Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down as senior royals in January 2020 and relocated to the United States, where they’ve remained active in supporting charitable and political causes such as Black Lives Matter, the Invictus Games, and climate change. However, according to British TV presenter Beverly Turner, the Duchess of Sussex may have bigger ambitions in the future, potentially eyeing the presidency. “She will run for President, I have no doubt about it,” Turner stated during an interview on Channel 5. “I have no doubt, I think this is all part of the plan. It may not be very soon but it will be.”
Despite Turner’s enthusiasm, Jeremy Vine, a fellow TV presenter, expressed skepticism. Turner, in her effort to persuade Vine, added, “I have it on fairly good authority that she would like to run for President… There may be worse presidents… I would like to see a mixed-race woman in the White House.” In response, Vine remarked, “I don’t know whether woke wins elections, that is the problem here.” Turner quickly interjected, asking, “What do you mean by woke?” To which Vine replied, “Woke is not aligning with where consensus is now, I suppose that is the thing.”
If that happened, I think I’d have an even stronger feel toward running.” pic.twitter.com/Ja69PmiRjg
Markle has already attracted the attention of key political figures in the United States. Valerie Biden Owens, President Joe Biden’s sister, has reportedly expressed support for Markle as a potential presidential candidate. According to the New York Post, Owens endorsed Markle as someone she would support for the White House, stating, “The more women we have, the better our democratic system will work, with a better point of view, a different point of view, and we embrace all women. We welcome Markle to come in and join the Democratic Party.” @MariaBartiromo
Even former President Donald Trump has weighed in on Markle’s political aspirations. In 2021, during an interview on Daily Mail, Trump was asked about Markle’s meetings with Democratic operatives regarding a potential presidential run. He responded, “Well I hope that happens because if that happened I think I’d have an even stronger feeling toward running.” He also voiced his lack of admiration for Markle, saying, “I’m not a fan of hers. I think that what she talks about is the Royal family and the Queen… I know the Queen and I think the Queen is a tremendous person.”
