Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry relocated to the United States, they have occasionally been spotted at high-profile events, from concerts to upscale restaurants favored by celebrities. However, the couple largely keeps a low profile, preferring to engage with the public only on their own terms—one of the main reasons they left the UK four years ago.
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do attend public events, royal fans eagerly anticipate a glimpse of them, and their appearances generate significant attention. One notable occasion was a date night at a Los Angeles Lakers game held at the Crypto.com Arena in April 2023. The couple was filmed on the big screen during the event, leading to an analysis of their conversation by a professional lip reader, told to the Mirror.
During the Lakers game against the Memphis Grizzlies, which was part of the first round of the NBA playoffs, Meghan wowed the audience in a pink linen suit jacket and matching shorts, paired with a simple white top. This outing came shortly after it was confirmed that Meghan would not be traveling to the UK for King Charles’s coronation.
At one point during the game, the couple appeared on the jumbotron and were playfully encouraged by the crowd to kiss. In another moment, they were filmed sharing a conversation, which lip-reading expert Jeremy Freeman claims to have decoded. According to Freeman, the couple seemed to express their thoughts about the evening. “It’s brilliant,” Meghan appeared to say to Harry, to which he nodded and replied, “Yeah.”
Meghan then added, “Right, it’s because it’s your favorite there,” before the camera switched back to the game’s action. The evening was not just a special outing for the Sussexes; they were joined by a host of A-list celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Adam Sandler, and Kris Jenner, all part of the vibrant crowd of 20,000 attendees.
The NBA playoffs were not the only public date night the couple has enjoyed since settling in California. They were also spotted at Beyoncé’s opening night of her Renaissance tour at SoFi Stadium in September 2022, where they were accompanied by Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, and her close friend, Abigail Spencer.
