Meghan Markle appeared unperturbed by the recent uproar over her attire during a visit to Nigeria. The Duchess of Sussex, as reported by The Mirror, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Nigerian King for the gracious reception, promising to return to the African nation in the future.
From May 10 to May 12, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited Nigeria at the invitation of the country’s highest-ranking military official. The trip was marked by Meghan’s stylish appearances at various events, which garnered significant attention.
A letter was obtained by the Western Post in which the former Suits actress wrote, “Your Imperial Majesty, Thank you for your warm welcome to Nigeria… Our visit to Nigeria was important for many reasons, but not least because it gave us an opportunity to explore and understand my heritage, which extends to our children.”
“We look forward to coming back home one day,” the former working royal concluded her statement. The First Lady said, “We are not having the Met Gala . . . We don’t accept nakedness in our culture.”
She added, “It is not beautiful at all . . . They are mimicking and trying to emulate film stars from America. They don’t know where they come from. Why did Meghan come here, looking for Africa? That is something we have to take home with us. We know who we are, and don’t lose who you are.”
Despite the positive interactions, Meghan’s choice of revealing outfits sparked controversy. Nonetheless, she seemed unaffected by the criticism and focused on the warmth and hospitality they received. The couple’s visit to Nigeria aimed to strengthen ties and explore cultural connections. During their stay, they attended several high-profile events, where Meghan’s fashion choices were both praised and scrutinized.
Upon returning to California, the country’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, appeared to criticize Meghan subtly. She commented on the culture of ‘nakedness’ in America, a remark seen as a veiled reference to Meghan’s attire. Despite this, Meghan’s focus remained on the positive aspects of their visit. She expressed her admiration for Nigeria’s rich culture and history, noting the memorable experiences they had.
In a statement, Meghan said, “We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we received in Nigeria. The hospitality and kindness shown to us were truly remarkable. We look forward to returning and continuing to build our connection with this beautiful country.”
Meghan and Harry’s visit was part of their ongoing efforts to engage with different cultures and communities. Their interactions in Nigeria included meetings with local leaders, visits to cultural sites, and discussions on various social issues.
Meghan’s fashion during the trip reflected her usual style, combining elegance with contemporary flair. While some criticized her choices as too revealing, many praised her for embracing a modern yet respectful approach to fashion in a different cultural context.
The controversy surrounding her outfits did not overshadow the couple’s visit, which was widely seen as a success. Their commitment to fostering international relationships and understanding was evident throughout their stay.
