Dementia, a condition that affects memory, language, and problem-solving, currently impacts over 944,000 people in the UK. The NHS predicts that this number will exceed 1 million by 2030. While there is no cure for dementia, early diagnosis is crucial in slowing its progression, and recognizing warning signs can make a significant difference, according to The Mirror.

Trainee nurse Diana Allison has shared her insights on early dementia symptoms in a recent TikTok video. Diana identifies memory loss as “often one of the first signs” to look out for. While occasional forgetfulness is common, she warns that frequent forgetfulness—especially with new information—could signal the onset of dementia.

The second early sign Diana highlights is “difficulty performing familiar tasks.” She explains that this might be noticed during everyday activities, such as making a cup of tea. For instance, someone may forget to put the tea bag in the mug or may lose track of the usual sequence of steps they take when preparing the drink.

The third sign Diana mentions is “problems with language,” where individuals might struggle to find the right words or follow conversations. Diana emphasizes that dementia is a “complex and challenging condition” that requires “early detection and proactive management.” She urges viewers to stay vigilant and reach out to their GP if they notice any concerning symptoms. told by Surrey Live.

According to the NHS, some of the most common early symptoms of dementia include:

  • Memory loss
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Struggling with familiar daily tasks, such as handling change while shopping
  • Problems following conversations or finding the right words
  • Confusion about time or place
  • Mood changes

Diana’s advice echoes the importance of not dismissing these symptoms as part of normal aging. Dementia is not a natural part of growing older, and early intervention can lead to better management of the condition. If you’re concerned about any of these signs, it’s important to speak with a GP sooner rather than later.
