Authorities in Dayton, Ohio, have provided new details regarding a weekend shooting near Pat’s Bar that left a 23-year-old man critically injured and resulted in a confession from the alleged shooter.
According to officials, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 22, in the 2700 block of Linden Avenue, near Pat’s Bar. At approximately 2:20 a.m., a local hospital received a call from Montgomery County Regional Dispatch after the victim arrived at the emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound.
The man reportedly transported himself to the hospital via a rideshare vehicle following the shooting. Upon arrival, medical personnel determined the 23-year-old victim was in critical condition, prompting an immediate investigation by law enforcement.
Later, Dayton police officers interviewed a 27-year-old suspect, who was identified as a person of interest in the case. During the interview, officials say the man allegedly “made a full confession” to the shooting. He was promptly arrested and booked into Montgomery County Jail on a charge of felonious assault.
The Dayton Police Department’s Violent Offender Unit has since taken over the investigation, which remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the shooting, told NBC affiliate WDTN.
Officials have not yet released the identities of either the suspect or the victim. No motive for the shooting has been publicly confirmed, and police have not stated whether the individuals knew each other prior to the altercation.
The confession reportedly played a significant role in the suspect’s arrest, though authorities continue to gather evidence and witness statements.
This incident marks another case being handled by the Violent Offender Unit, which is tasked with tackling some of the city’s most serious and high-risk criminal acts. Police have urged anyone with information about the shooting or events leading up to it to come forward.
As the investigation continues, the condition of the 23-year-old victim remains a key concern. Officials have not provided an update on whether his condition has improved since being admitted to the hospital.
More updates are expected as the case moves forward and charges are formally processed.
