Nicknames in the British royal family are nothing new, but a light-hearted revelation by Mike Tindall about Prince William’s nickname stirred a bit of controversy. told by Yahoo, During a podcast appearance hosted by Rob Burrow, Tindall humorously disclosed that he and others refer to the Prince of Wales as “One Pint Willy” — a nickname that pokes fun at the future king’s drinking abilities.

When asked if the royal family has unique nicknames, Tindall, a former English rugby player, didn’t hold back. “For the Prince of Wales, he is known as One Pint Willy,” he shared. “He is known to me as One Pint Willy because he is not the best of drinkers. Coming from a sport built on social drinking, we’re used to a few beers here and there. That’s one I will definitely give away,” Tindall added with a laugh, according to The Irish Star.

Realizing the potential implications, Tindall quickly backtracked, laughing and saying, “Oh my god, it’s out there now. Sorry, sir.” His wife, Zara Tindall, who is William’s cousin, joined in with a chuckle, saying, “Oh my god. You are in so much trouble,” according to BBC. The two then lightened the mood by revealing their own nicknames for each other, including Zara’s unique two-word term for Tindall that ends in “kitten.”

Following the podcast, Prince William acknowledged Tindall’s playful confession during an event at Headingley Stadium in Leeds. While presenting Burrow and Kevin Sinfield with CBEs for their work raising awareness for motor neuron disease (MND), William humorously addressed the incident. “It was you who got the nicknames out of him,” he joked with Burrow. “He apologized to me about that. When I saw him, I said, ‘Mike, when you say you’re not going to mention nicknames, it doesn’t mean you mention mine!’” The Irish Star. reported that William, though ribbed in public, appeared to take the joke in stride.

Listen as Prince William meets rugby heroes Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow (who raised millions for Motor Neurone Disease) and laughs as he reveals Mike Tindall has “apologized” for revealing his nickname was ‘One Pint Willy’ on Rob’s podcast last month.

The heartwarming event highlighted the camaraderie among the royals, but it also marked a somber moment, as Burrow, who had been living with MND, passed away shortly after in June 2024 at age 41. He is survived by his wife, Lindey Burrow, and their three children, Macy, Maya, and Jackson. The nickname incident, though minor, showcased the close bond within the royal family and their willingness to share a laugh, even when traditions might suggest otherwise.
