Princess Kate once delivered a sharp, witty comeback that perfectly captured her quiet confidence—and fans can’t get enough of it.
According to royal biographer Claudia Joseph, the Princess of Wales was once told she was “lucky to have Prince William” during the early years of their relationship. Without missing a beat, Kate replied: “He’s lucky to have me.”
The quote, which appears in Joseph’s biography Kate Middleton: Princess in Waiting, has recently resurfaced online and sparked fresh admiration for the royal’s grounded nature and sense of self-worth. Many see it as an early indicator of the mutual respect at the heart of her marriage to William.
Kate, 43, and Prince William, 42, first met at the University of St Andrews in the early 2000s. They became close friends before dating, keeping their relationship largely private throughout their studies. The couple eventually married in a globally televised ceremony at Westminster Abbey in April 2011.
Over the years, William has frequently praised his wife’s strength and grace. Most notably, in a touching birthday tribute this January—just after Kate revealed she was in remission from cancer—he wrote:
“To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you.”
The couple, who now live in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, share three children—Prince George (2013), Princess Charlotte (2015), and Prince Louis (2018)—and are known for balancing royal duties with hands-on parenting.
A recent Valentine’s Day photo, showing William kissing Kate on the cheek during a woodland picnic, offered a rare glimpse into their affectionate bond. It was widely shared across social media as proof of their enduring connection.
But it’s that simple five-word quip—“He’s lucky to have me”—that continues to resonate with royal watchers, especially in a year marked by personal challenges for the Princess. To many, it stands as a reminder that long before she wore a crown, Kate Middleton always knew her worth—and so did William.
