Sarah Jessica Parker is shedding light on why she often declines to take selfies with fans, opting instead for something she considers more meaningful a real conversation.
During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the Sex and the City star opened up about her discomfort with being abruptly approached for photos, describing a recent encounter that highlighted her preference for genuine connection.
“So here’s what I’ve been trying to do, because I was just at the airport on Friday,” Parker told Stern. “A woman came up to me and she didn’t say hello, she just said, ‘Can I take your picture?’ And I said, ‘We didn’t even meet. You didn’t even introduce yourself. What’s your name?'”
When the woman responded that her name was Julie, Parker recalled offering her a different experience. “I guarantee you it’s gonna be so much more meaningful,” she explained, emphasizing how a simple introduction and moment of connection can mean more than a quick snapshot.
Host Howard Stern responded with his usual bluntness: “It’s like you’re a schoolteacher teaching everyone how to behave. It’s f—— annoying, yeah?”
Parker disagreed with his take but acknowledged that she finds it unsettling when fans start snapping photos without any warning or interaction.
“Here’s the thing: I kind of prefer it to somebody walking up to me with a camera already ready asking as they’re clicking,” Parker said. “I always am, like, startled by it.”
Instead, she said she values the moments when people take a more thoughtful approach. “I much prefer to have a conversation — for someone to come up to me and say, ‘Maybe this isn’t your best time, my name is Veronica and I’m just here and I’m excited to see you.’”
The actress’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among celebrities about preserving boundaries while still engaging with fans. Rather than a refusal to interact, Parker’s approach invites a more personal exchange—one that respects both her space and the fan’s admiration.
Her message was clear: A simple hello can go a long way.
