A mass stabbing in Southport, England, near a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class, has left eight people injured, with children among the victims. On Monday, July 29, Merseyside Police responded to multiple reports of a stabbing at a property on Hart Street, a seaside town located approximately 20 miles north of Liverpool. The incident occurred around 11:50 a.m., according to a police statement.
Reports from The Telegraph and the Daily Express reveal that the stabbing took place near the Hart Space, where a Taylor Swift-themed dance class was being held. The class was advertised for children aged between 6 and 11, as reported by The Telegraph.
“Armed police have detained a male and seized a knife,” the police statement read. “He has been taken to a police station.” The authorities have not disclosed the identity of the suspect but assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, told BBC News.
North West Ambulance Service, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that they dispatched 13 ambulances along with specialized resources to the scene. Eight individuals were treated for stab wounds and transported to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital, and Southport and Formby Hospital. The ages of the victims have not been revealed.
Alder Hey Children’s Hospital declared a “major incident” on Monday, stating that it is “working with other emergency services to respond to this incident” and that its emergency department is currently extremely busy.
Authorities have not yet confirmed any fatalities related to the incident. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his shock at the news, stating on X, “Horrendous and deeply shocking news emerging from Southport. My thoughts are with all those affected. I would like to thank the police and emergency services for their swift response. I am being kept updated as the situation develops.”
