An Ohio dad was reportedly shot in the face while holding his 10-month-old baby in the parking lot of his local grocery store. Police are still investigating and trying to figure out a motive, but it appears that the man may have known the people who shot him.
Thankfully, even though the father was shot at relatively close range, the baby was unharmed in the incident.
The shooting happened during busy hours.
The Whitehall Police Department shared a press release about the incident. At around 5:35 p.m. on December 1, 20204, police “responded to a report of shots fired near the Kroger Great Eastern complex.” When police arrived on the scene, they found that the father had been shot in the face.
The father had his baby with him when he was shot.
The father was shot in the nose and taken to the hospital for medical treatment. According to the police, he was holding his 10-month-old baby in his arms at the time of the shooting. Thankfully, the baby was not injured in the incident, but the man did tell police that one of the bullets “narrowly missed” the little one.
He allegedly knew the men who shot him.
“According to police records, the father told officers that the two men were harassing his family while they were in the store and the shooting happened when they got outside,” WBNS reported.
In their statement, police said that the father said he was approached by two men. One of them shot him in the nose, while the other filmed the whole thing on his phone.
The suspects weren’t strangers.
The father told police that he “knew both individuals from the past.” However, he hadn’t “seen them in several years.” Police identified the suspects as Shyler Swank and Christopher Dumont. There’s no report as to what the motive was for the men to attack the man.
The two men have been charged.
WBNS reported that according to records filed at the Franklin County Municipal Court, the father’s fiancée, who is seven months pregnant, was present at the time of the shooting. She was allegedly standing about 6 feet behind him when Swank reportedly fired the shots.
Swank and Dumont were taken into police custody shortly after the shooting incident. Dumont was charged with three counts of complicity and Swank was charged with three counts of felonious assault. Swank was given a $800,000 bond when he appeared at the Franklin County Municipal Court.
