In a late-night post on his Truth Social platform, former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, calling for her to take a “test on Cognitive Stamina and Agility.” Trump’s post, made at 1:12 AM, accused Harris of exhibiting behavior that he claimed raised concerns about her mental capacity. “Her actions have led many to believe that there could be something very wrong with her,” Trump wrote.
He further alleged that “even 60 Minutes and CBS, in order to protect Lyin’ Kamala, illegally and unscrupulously replaced an answer she had given, which was totally ‘bonkers,’ with another answer that had nothing to do with the question asked.” Trump did not stop there, claiming Harris is “slow and lethargic in answering even the easiest of questions,” adding, “We just went through almost four years of that, we shouldn’t have to do it again!”
Later that same morning, Trump reposted the message on X (formerly Twitter), continuing his criticism of the vice president. The attack follows a series of recent statements where Trump has questioned Harris’s competence, even reportedly referring to her as “retarded,” according to The New York Times.
The message quickly drew responses from various media figures and political commentators, many pointing to the irony in Trump’s statement. Zeteo News columnist Justin Baragona noted, “So, let me get this straight: The 78-year-old GOP presidential nominee, who has been showing serious signs of age-related decline, refuses to release his medical records — but he is now demanding his much younger opponent take a cognitive test?”
SiriusXM host Michelangelo Signorile also chimed in, suggesting that Trump’s frustration stemmed from Harris’s remarks about his refusal to release medical records or sit for a 60-minute interview. “Claiming Harris is ‘slow and lethargic’ is a heavy lift even for this pathological liar and his MAGA mob,” Signorile tweeted.
In response, the Harris campaign mocked Trump’s 1 AM post. Campaign spokesperson Ian Sams tweeted, “Trump posts at 1:12 am that VP Harris must take a cognitive test. He refuses to release his medical records, sit with 60 Minutes, or debate her again— instead retreating solely to rambling rallies where he’s increasingly making no sense. Is he okay?”
Republican Voters Against Trump, a project of the Republican Accountability PAC, commented on the former president’s remarks, stating, “It’s always projection with Trump.” This sentiment was echoed by MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin, who said, “Everything Trump and his party accuse Democrats of doing ultimately ends up being a cynical projection of themselves.”
As the 2024 election heats up, Trump’s late-night tirade against Harris is another chapter in his ongoing campaign rhetoric, raising questions about his own fitness as much as his opponent’s.
