The 2024 presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is intensifying, with both candidates leveraging social media and rallies to engage voters. Recently, the Harris-Walz campaign seized on an opportunity to mock Trump, sharing a satirical video on X (formerly Twitter) that has quickly gone viral.
According to Newsweek, The video, which has garnered widespread attention, features footage of Trump speaking at a rally. However, the clip isn’t just any rally footage—it’s edited to highlight audience members yawning, all set to a lullaby-like soundtrack. The “snoozefest” meme, as it’s being dubbed, was shared by the Harris campaign after Trump boldly claimed, “Because people get bored, but they don’t get bored with me.”
Despite the humor, the origins of the video remain unclear, with the exact time and location of the rally footage unknown. The meme has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many users on X weighing in on the video and Trump’s current campaign. One user quipped, “Trump is so boring. His crowd size keeps getting smaller with each passing day. He’s losing support and I love it.”
Another user offered a more reflective take: “Trump once represented a rebellion against the status quo. He was the bully who could bring change. Now? He’s an old movie that keeps playing in a theatre that’s closed down.”
Not everyone was critical of Trump, though. Some netizens pointed out the long hours his supporters wait at rallies as a possible reason for their drowsiness. “Those people waited hours to see Trump. Of course, they are tired,” one commenter reasoned.
In response to the viral video, Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung dismissed it as a “deceptively edited cheap fake” by the Harris campaign. Cheung criticized Harris, accusing her of being unwilling to engage in a debate or face tough questions from the media. “The fact is that Comrade Kamala Harris is too much of a coward to debate, or even do a proper interview with media or hold a press conference, and has laid out policies that would destroy America,” Cheung stated.
As the campaign continues, political analysts are closely watching both candidates. Thomas Gift, a political scientist, noted that Harris’ current wave of positive media coverage might soon wane as voters begin scrutinizing her policies. “Her honeymoon will end. Once she is forced to get specific on policies, Americans will be reminded of why Harris was rated as one of the most liberal senators in Congress,” Gift explained.
With Election Day on November 5 approaching, the race remains unpredictable. As Gift pointed out, “Just weeks ago, it looked like Trump would cruise to victory. Now, many think the exact opposite. What we know for sure is that a lot can happen between now and Election Day.”
