Former President Donald Trump recently misled his supporters by claiming that President Joe Biden is dropping out of the presidential race. This assertion is entirely unfounded, as Biden has made no such announcement. Trump circulated an email to his followers with the subject line “President Kamala Harris?” In it, he asked, “Did you hear that Crooked Joe Biden is dropping out of the race?”
He also stated that the “fake news media” had turned against Biden and emphasized that Biden was “getting KILLED in the polls!” using bold red letters for emphasis. Trump has a history of making false claims, particularly in his campaign’s fundraising messages, which often use provocative language to capture attention and solicit donations.
For example, one email declared, “1 MONTH UNTIL ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!” while another proclaimed, “JUSTICE IS DEAD IN AMERICA!” Some Republican fundraisers are concerned about this approach, fearing it may fatigue donors. One GOP consultant noted, “When you’re already talking about the death penalty in June, what are you going to say in October?” according to The Raw Story.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, Biden shows no signs of quitting. He recently assured Democrats in Congress, “I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024. We had a Democratic nomination process and the voters have spoken clearly and decisively.”
Brian Gardner, a policy strategist who analyzes political impacts on U.S. capital markets, suggests there is a 40% chance Biden might not seek reelection. However, Gardner also believes Biden is likely to remain in the race, stating, “Biden loves to prove the smart kids in the Democratic Party wrong. So, the more he hears voices from the elites that he needs to get out, the more he digs in his heels,” according to CNBC.
Despite his public statements, Trump seems to acknowledge that Biden is not likely to withdraw from the 2024 presidential campaign. In a recent Fox News interview, he said, “It looks to me like he very well may stay in. Nobody wants to give that up that way,” suggesting that Biden’s ego will keep him in the race. Biden has faced some criticism recently, with a few Democrats expressing concern about his performance in debates with Trump, noting that he appeared confused at times. Some have even suggested that he step aside for a younger candidate.
It is essential to remember that presidential races can change rapidly. What seems true today might not be tomorrow. As voters, it is crucial to verify facts and not take politicians’ statements at face value. Meanwhile, as speculation about Biden continues, Trump is expected to announce his running mate soon, possibly just before or during the Republican National Convention next week.
