“Is She Too Fringe to Be Press Secretary?”: Trump’s Team Rejected Laura Loomer Over Conspiracy Ties

A forthcoming book reveals that President Donald Trump seriously considered hiring far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer as his White House press secretary, a move that was ultimately shut down by his top advisers.

The revelation comes from 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America, an upcoming book authored by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf, which details Trump’s return to the political spotlight and the internal conflicts shaping his campaign.

According to an excerpt reported by the Daily Mail, Trump once asked his aides, “Is she too fringe to be press secretary?”, referring to Loomer, a controversial figure known for her conspiracy-laden views and inflammatory rhetoric.

“Many of Trump’s advisers viewed Loomer as too-conspiracy-minded and pugilistic, but he liked her,” the book claims. Despite Trump’s interest, aides reportedly persuaded him to drop the idea, fearing backlash over Loomer’s extremist views.

Loomer, who has falsely claimed that 9/11 was an inside job, remained a frequent presence around Trump’s circle, influencing White House decisions and allegedly playing a role in the ousting of several National Security Council staffers in April. According to CNN, she pressured Trump to fire over a dozen officials—some of whom were ultimately removed.

Even prominent MAGA figures have taken issue with Loomer. In 2023, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) publicly stated that Loomer was a “huge problem” for the movement because of her “rhetoric and hateful tone.”

The book further outlines some of Loomer’s most controversial moments. At one point, she made a racist comment about Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting the White House would “smell like curry all the time” if Harris were elected. Harris’s mother was Indian.

Perhaps most bizarrely, Loomer reportedly pushed a conspiracy involving Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, accusing them of stealing geese and cats for food. The authors write that she shared these claims with Trump, including a local call to the sheriff and a story about a woman arrested for allegedly eating a cat.

That story, they claim, helped inspire one of Trump’s most viral moments: a debate remark about immigrants eating pets. According to the book, “Trump’s pet-eating line was the debate’s most memorable, launching a thousand memes and becoming a TikTok trend.” The moment reportedly helped Trump shift focus onto immigration, which remains one of his core campaign issues.
