A devastating incident in Poinciana, Florida, has left a community in shock after 14-year-old Giselle Glover died in a violent altercation involving her mother, 35-year-old Kelsey Glover. Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez shared details in a Nov. 20 press conference, describing how officers arrived at the home amid an ongoing “armed disturbance.”
“It was just something that we caught in the act, and God only knows in which direction that was going to go if we didn’t get there on time and kick the door in,” said Lopez. Officers reportedly found Glover wielding a hammer and attempting to strike another woman who was trying to stop her from harming her daughter. Four people were in the home at the time: Glover, Giselle, a roommate, and another child.
After subduing Glover, deputies learned of Giselle’s condition. “Witnesses also told deputies that they saw Ms. Glover holding her 14-year-old daughter’s head underwater in the bathtub,” Lopez explained. Despite attempts to intervene, the witnesses were unable to stop her. Glover allegedly turned violent, chasing the witnesses around the house with a hammer, prompting the 911 call.
Giselle was found unresponsive in the bathroom and was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A homicide investigation has been launched while officials await the medical examiner’s report on the teen’s cause of death.
Glover was arrested and faces aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery charges. Further charges related to her daughter’s death are anticipated as the investigation progresses. Sheriff Lopez noted that Glover has been “a little uncooperative” and that authorities are working to uncover the motives behind her actions. “Hopefully, we’ll get to the bottom of that soon,” he said.
This tragedy comes against a backdrop of prior domestic issues. Sheriff Lopez disclosed a past incident in which Glover allegedly assaulted Giselle’s father, leading him to file an injunction against her.
Currently held without bail at the Osceola County Jail, Glover’s actions have left unanswered questions and a family in mourning. Sheriff Lopez acknowledged the heroic efforts of those in the home who tried to save Giselle but could not prevent the tragic outcome. The investigation remains ongoing.
