A tragic shooting in Bulloch County, Georgia, has left a family shattered after a 15-year-old boy was charged with killing his 17-year-old brother and critically wounding their father.

Jarrell Lariscy Jr. allegedly shot his brother Johnny Lariscy and his father Jarrell Lariscy Sr. with a shotgun outside their home near Waters Cemetery Road/Highway 46 in the Nevils area. The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, according to local authorities, according to WSAV.com.

Johnny succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Statesboro, while Jarrell Sr. survived a gunshot wound to the head and is being treated at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. A GoFundMe page set up to assist with Jarrell Sr.’s medical bills revealed the extent of his injuries, stating he has a “very long road ahead.”

Authorities confirmed that both victims were struck by shotgun pellets. Captain Todd Hutchens of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences at a press conference, saying, “Basically, the 15-year-old shot his brother and shot his father, just in this unfortunate circumstance.”

Jarrell Jr. was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges, including felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Under Georgia’s “Seven Deadly Sins” law, which allows juveniles to be prosecuted as adults for violent crimes, Jarrell Jr. will face these charges in adult court, according to the Statesboro Herald.

Captain Hutchens emphasized the tragedy of the situation, particularly during the holiday season: “We want to be very compassionate to this family. We want to extend our condolences to this family. It’s an unfortunate situation and circumstance.”

Tributes poured in for Johnny, who was remembered as a “typical southern teenager.” The GoFundMe page described him as someone who loved fishing, hunting, and riding four-wheelers. “He was always willing to help anyone and everyone, just like his dad. They were inseparable,” the tribute read.

The page also highlighted the strength of Jarrell Sr., a towing company employee and lawn care business owner. “Jarrell (Jay) is an upstanding guy and an important part of the Nevils community. Over the weekend, he experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” it stated.

As the family navigates this devastating loss, the community has rallied to support them, raising over $4,000 to aid with medical and funeral expenses. The tragedy has left the Nevils are grieving during what should be a season of joy.
