A pregnant woman was tragically killed in Brooklyn after a minor late-night fender bender turned into a deadly hit-and-run. The suspect driver remains at large, police said Sunday. The victim, 32-year-old Tiffany Cifuni of Long Island, had just attended the Beyoncé concert at MetLife Stadium and was returning home when the fatal incident occurred shortly before midnight Saturday.
Police say Cifuni was in her 2021 Toyota 4Runner when she was involved in a minor collision with a 2016 Chevy Trax at Van Buren Street and Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Cifuni got out of her vehicle to inspect the damage, but the situation quickly turned tragic, reports New York Post.
“The driver of the Trax gunned it and struck Cifuni from behind, dragging her before speeding away against traffic on Lafayette Avenue,” an NYPD spokesperson told reporters. After hitting Cifuni, the suspect continued the reckless escape, crashing the Chevy into a parked Volkswagen SUV and then slamming into a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was occupied by a 38-year-old woman. Fortunately, that driver was not seriously injured.
Following the collisions, the driver of the Chevy Trax abandoned the vehicle which had temporary license plates and fled on foot. The suspect has not been identified, and police are continuing their search. Emergency responders arrived at the chaotic scene and found Cifuni unresponsive. She was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Cifuni’s grieving family told ABC7 that she was in the early stages of pregnancy, having shared the joyful news with her husband James and their loved ones just two weeks prior. The couple had been expecting their first child.
“She was full of life and so excited to become a mom,” her in-laws said in an emotional statement. “This should have been the happiest time of their lives, not the most heartbreaking.” As of Monday morning, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the hit-and-run incident to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
