Chrissy Teigen is opening up once again about her journey with sobriety, reliving both the highs and missteps with honesty—and humor. In a candid reflection, the 39-year-old model and television personality recalled a memorable night from early 2021, just three months into her sobriety.
Though she’s since relapsed, Teigen looked back on the moment with laughter. “May she forever live in the past, lol,” she wrote, referring to her “drunk dumba****” self at the time. Despite the struggle, she called the night a “legendary moment.”
That moment became widely recognized during the 2025 Golden Globes, when Teigen was seen drinking champagne and making her now-iconic “cry face” as husband John Legend performed Glory from the film Selma. It quickly went viral, earning her a spot in meme history.
However, the road to sobriety hasn’t been a straight one. On May 15 of this year, Teigen, a mother of four, revealed to fans that she had relapsed after four years without alcohol.
“To have to admit to all of you that I let [alcohol] back into my life… to let a lot of you down, oh I feel it deeply,” she confessed. “The truth is, I don’t know what I’m doing.”
She also spoke about the triggers that led to her slipping. “I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine,” she said. “Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an a**** of myself to people that I really respected.”
Teigen credited author and sobriety advocate Holly Whitaker with helping her reevaluate her relationship with alcohol. “Holly Whitaker changed my life, changed my perspective and changed how I view the f**** beast that is alcohol,” she said.
Even in the wake of her relapse, Teigen remains grounded in what sobriety has offered her. “I one hundred percent know I like me better sober. I one hundred percent know I get more done, I absolutely feel better in my body without it,” she admitted.
Through it all, Teigen’s openness continues to resonate with fans navigating similar paths.
