Ellen DeGeneres and Brad Pitt recently delighted fans with a humorous revelation about their shared dating history during an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in September 2019. The 60-year-old actor made a surprise appearance and, while reminiscing about their first meeting, the duo hinted at a mysterious woman they both dated. Though they didn’t reveal her identity, the story intrigued the audience, as per PEOPLE.
DeGeneres asked Pitt if he remembered the first time they met, to which he responded instantly, “I remember a Melissa Etheridge pool party, where I think you were hitting on my girlfriend,” adding that it was either the “late ’80s” or the “early ’90s.” The talk show host, known for her quick wit, jokingly replied, “Was I hitting on your girlfriend, really?” Pitt laughed and said, “I think so.
I was flattered.” The conversation took a playful turn as DeGeneres added, “I actually sense that I have dated another one of your girlfriends,” to which Pitt echoed, “After the show.” The mystery of who the mutual ex-girlfriend was left fans buzzing with curiosity.
Ellen DeGeneres, who has been happily married to actress Portia de Rossi since 2008, shared this lighthearted moment with Pitt as part of her show’s many memorable exchanges. DeGeneres and de Rossi’s love story began at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, and their bond blossomed into a lifelong commitment.
They recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary, and de Rossi’s 50th birthday was marked by a touching renewal of vows. DeGeneres expressed her deep love during the ceremony, saying, “When I was thinking about what would make my birthday special, apart from being with family and friends, it was reminding you that you are the most important thing in the world to me.” Officiated by Kris Jenner, de Rossi was equally thrilled, declaring, “I’m just so excited for the future where we just get to do whatever the hell we want for the rest of our lives.”
In other news, DeGeneres made headlines by announcing her retirement from television. After a wildly successful career that was later marred by controversy, the comedian revealed she was ending her iconic talk show. During the final stop of her 27-city farewell tour in Santa Rosa on July 3, 2024, she declared, “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.” When a fan asked if she would reprise her role as Dory in Finding Nemo, she quipped, “No, I’m going bye-bye, remember.”
DeGeneres’ show faced scrutiny after allegations from former staff members about a toxic work environment. Reflecting on the controversy, she told TODAY‘s Savannah Guthrie, “It started with attacks on me and attacking everything that I stand for and believe in and built my career around…” But she maintained her belief in her work, stating, “I am a kind person. I am a person who likes to make people happy.”
