Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent professional separation has caught the attention of medical doctor and journalist Dr. Max Pemberton, who shared his thoughts on the matter in a piece for the Daily Mail.
Dr. Pemberton expressed surprise at seeing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attend separate engagements, a rare move for the couple who are usually seen together. He wrote, “It felt rather strange to see the duke and duchess carrying out separate engagements,” especially considering their public image.
“We’re so used to them coming as a package deal, their hands seemingly superglued together in a tight grip,” Dr. Pemberton observed, noting that this public display of affection often seemed “less like a display of love and more like clinging on for dear life as they navigated the road ahead.”
While some may view their professional separation as unusual, Dr. Pemberton believes it may be a positive step for their personal growth. He explained, “Working so close with your partner does mean that you always have someone close by who has your back, which is very comforting.” However, he also pointed out the downside: “You lose your sense of self and your own identity.”
He further noted that constantly working and living together can be challenging for any couple. “When you live and work together, there’s little downtime or respite from one another,” Dr. Pemberton wrote. “Even the most loved-up couple needs a break from time to time.”
This professional split may indicate that both Meghan and Harry are finding their own paths, with Harry focusing on philanthropy and Meghan reportedly returning to the entertainment industry. While it’s a shift from their usual united front, it could allow them to maintain their individuality while still supporting one another. As they continue to redefine their roles post-royalty, their professional separation might just be another step in their ongoing evolution as a couple.
