“‘Cause That’s Not My Passion’: Miley Cyrus Explains Why She Hasn’t Launched a Makeup Brand

Miley Cyrus is setting the record straight on why she hasn’t jumped on the celebrity beauty brand bandwagon. The 32-year-old singer and actress recently opened up about her personal and professional choices during an appearance on The Interview podcast by The New York Times on May 31.

In the conversation, Cyrus reflected on the growing trend of stars launching makeup and skincare lines, and why that path doesn’t resonate with her. “My stepdad asked me the other day, ‘Why are you the only one without a makeup line?’ I was like, ‘Cause that’s not my passion.’ He goes, ‘That’s the right answer,’” she shared.

Cyrus, who rose to fame with Disney’s Hannah Montana before becoming a chart-topping music artist, explained her decision further. “It’s like, ‘I don’t have a makeup line because I’m not a makeup artist,’” she said. For Cyrus, it’s about authenticity and staying aligned with what drives her creatively.

While she clarified that she’s not casting judgment on celebrities who explore side businesses, she pointed to her godmother, Dolly Parton, as an example of someone who genuinely thrives in that space. “Some people operate differently, you know? Dolly always says, ‘You do you, and I’ll do me, together we’ll be us.’ This woman [sells] cupcakes, Dollywood, amusement parks, all the things. I’ve never felt like that was really for me.”

Cyrus praised Parton’s entrepreneurial spirit, noting, “She absolutely adores it.” But for herself, the passion lies elsewhere. “To me, it’s me by a piano writing songs and telling my stories, and then creating a gorgeous visual in support of that. That’s what I love to do,” she said, emphasizing her devotion to music and storytelling.

Her comments arrive at a time when many celebrities from Rihanna and Selena Gomez to Hailey Bieber and Ariana Grande have successfully launched their own beauty empires. But for Cyrus, it’s clear that chasing trends isn’t on her agenda. Instead, she remains focused on her artistry, proving once again that authenticity is at the core of her brand.
