Prince Andrew is facing yet another setback in his ongoing dispute with his elder brother, King Charles, over his residence at Royal Lodge. The Duke of York, who has resided in the 31-room mansion on the Windsor estate for more than 20 years, is reportedly under fresh pressure to vacate the property.
This latest development comes after reports surfaced that King Charles has decided to withdraw the private security team from Andrew’s residence. According to The New York Post, citing The Sun, the security staff at Royal Lodge have been informed that their contracts will not be renewed beyond October. This has fueled speculation that the move is part of an effort to force Andrew out of the property.
An insider explained, “They are all working the final weeks of their contract till the end of October. It’s not thought anyone is being lined up to replace them.” The source continued, “Everyone is speculating this means the Duke will have to leave the Royal Lodge because what other reason could there be to take his security away?” The decision to terminate the security team has sparked concerns that this is part of a larger plan by the monarch to remove his younger brother from the residence altogether.
Prince Andrew, who signed a 75-year lease for the property, has been living at the Royal Lodge with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, despite ongoing tension within the royal family. The property, set within 98 acres of grounds, has been Andrew’s home since 2003. However, since King Charles ascended to the throne, there have been growing tensions between the brothers over the future of the estate, with the monarch reportedly wanting Andrew to downsize to Frogmore Cottage, the former residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Andrew’s relationship with King Charles has been strained in recent years, and his standing within the royal family has suffered after his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light. The Duke of York stepped back from public duties in 2019, and his royal role has been significantly reduced since then. Now, the removal of security at the Royal Lodge adds to the growing list of challenges facing Prince Andrew.
As the October deadline approaches, it remains uncertain what the future holds for Prince Andrew at Royal Lodge. While no formal eviction has been confirmed, the withdrawal of security is being viewed by many as a clear signal that the Duke may soon be forced to vacate his longtime residence.
