A light-hearted royal encounter once took an awkward turn when King Charles III reportedly made Queen Camilla visibly uncomfortable by excessively complimenting a British actress at a social gathering.
British soap star Carli Norris, best known for her roles in EastEnders and Hollyoaks, shared the amusing – and slightly cringeworthy – royal moment during a podcast released on Tuesday. Norris recalled a particular event where then-Prince Charles was making the rounds, introducing himself to guests, when he unexpectedly singled her out for praise.
“Prince Charles was walking around, introducing himself to everybody and he came up to me, shook my hand and said, ‘You’ve got very sexy legs,’” Norris recounted. “I went, ‘Oh thank you, Your Highness,’” she added with a laugh.
While the comment may have seemed like innocent banter, Norris revealed that the King was apparently so taken by her legs that he couldn’t stop talking about them – much to Queen Camilla’s annoyance.
“Apparently, Prince Charles was going on and on about my legs so much that eventually Camilla slapped her knife and fork down and said, ‘Oh for goodness’ sake, Chas, will you stop going on about that gal’s legs?!’” Norris continued. “She left the room and stormed out.”
The revelation sheds a rare, candid light on the more human, less filtered side of royal life – reminding the public that even kings and queens are not immune to occasional moments of tension and humor.
Despite the awkward exchange, Norris later received an invitation to Buckingham Palace, where she was honored as one of 100 “national treasures” during Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee celebrations – a testament to her enduring popularity and contribution to British entertainment.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor Queen Camilla has publicly responded to Norris’ anecdote, which has since sparked light-hearted debate among royal watchers and fans of the actress.
