As Sean “Diddy” Combs faces serious allegations including racketeering, sex trafficking, and prostitution all of which he denies legal experts are weighing in on what could come next in the explosive case. One thing is clear: if Diddy takes the stand, it could dramatically shift the legal landscape.
Entertainment lawyer Lisa Bonner told Page Six that it’s “highly unlikely” the music mogul will testify in court, given the mounting accusations and risks that come with speaking under oath.
“Once you take the stand, everything you’ve ever done – related to any of these alleged crimes become fair game,” Bonner said. “You are under oath and you can go to jail for… perjury, so you want to avoid taking the stand.” Perjury, the act of lying while under oath, carries its own legal consequences and could further complicate Combs’ defense.
The spotlight on Diddy has intensified after bombshell testimonies from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, former employees, and rapper Kid Cudi. Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, alleged that Diddy “had something to do with” a Molotov cocktail attack on his car in 2012 a claim that stunned many and added another layer to the case.
Bonner believes this is just one of many accusations that could unravel if Diddy were to take the witness stand. “There is a lot of evidence that will be presented, even up until now, that I wouldn’t want to answer if I was Diddy,” she said. “There’s nothing to gain, especially if you have any skeletons in your closet.”
Despite the growing pressure and public interest in hearing directly from the Bad Boy Records founder, Bonner firmly states it would be “absolutely” surprising if Combs chooses to testify.
The trial has already drawn massive media attention, not just because of the serious nature of the allegations, but also due to the high-profile individuals involved. With the potential for even more revelations, the courtroom drama surrounding Diddy is far from over.
For now, Combs maintains his innocence as the case proceeds but all eyes are on whether he’ll stay silent or step into the witness box, knowing the stakes could not be higher.
